The energy regulator fined Spark Energy £250,000 for breaching rules
The energy regulator Ofgen began an investigation on Spark Energy after BBC’s watchdog program pointed out some serious allegation against the energy supplier in 2013.
As a result of the investigation Ofgem discovered that Spark Energy stopped its customers from switching energy suppliers. It has also transferred some of its customers to new suppliers without the consent of the customers, which is not a standard practice of the industry. Furthermore, Spark’s billing and complaints standards was not up to the mark. Most of these cases were happened from the middle of 2010 to October 2013.
Ofgem took it seriously and fined Spark Energy 250,000 for breaking the rules. However, Ofgem has also mentioned that the supplier has addressed the issues and made significant progress in dealing with these sorts of matters.
